What is the main idea of the Social Sector Fund?
The Social Sector Fund is a proposed independent Canadian fund designed to finance shared infrastructure and capacity-building for the charitable and non-profit sector. Rather than funding individual charities’ programs, it would invest in common capabilities such as workforce development, data, research, generosity, technology, knowledge-sharing and sector innovation.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
It is
- shared infrastructure for the whole sector
- a mechanism for strategic national investment
- independent and arm’s-length, administered by the sector, outside of the political ecosystem
- focused on common capabilities that improve sector effectiveness
It is not
- another federal grant program
- another private foundation
- a fund for individual charities or service-delivery projects
- an organization directing charities’ missions
Independent.Sector-led.Strategically focused.No new government spending.
